This is St Mary Woolnoth Church near the Bank of England. St Mary's was designed by Nicholas Hawksmoor and completed in 1727, later becoming the Lord Mayor's church. These days the unusual facade performs only a minor role in its surroundings, inferior to that of CCTV posts and traffic lights. On the left of the first picture may be seen a white banner hanging from a lamp post, which reads 'Make Britain Proud'. The message, however, is self-defeating, as no decent British citizen should feel proud until the last of these obstructions is cut down.
